Damage caused by grey squirrels is usually easy to identify because they are active during the day and readily observed. Red squirrels are generally active early in the morning or late in the afternoon during summer, and around midday in winter.

Squirrels are rodents that can produce up to two litters per year: one between March and April and another between July and August. Gestation lasts about 40 days, with an average of three to six young per litter.
During the fall, young squirrels disperse in search of territories of their own.
